At least on my Book 3 Sokka cosplay. I have been meaning to at least START sanding a “bevel” onto Space Sword, but never got around to it. It’s been weeks, but somehow I either always have something to do, or the weather is too bad outside for me to set up the workbench.
Today I had time and good weather, and thus started. Obviously really worried using a technique I had never done before, so I tested it on a spare piece of wood. It was kind of a meh effect, but I took the leap and started carefully using it on the sword as well. I’ve only put about half an hour of sanding into it (it’s going to need at least that much more, if not double), but I can actually see the noticeable slant on it! It’s really starting to look more like a blade and less like a pointed block of wood. And luckily I can’t make it too sharp given con policies, so…at this point I know exactly how to do it and just need to put in the time. Given four days off work this coming weekend, I plan to finish the sanding as well as the painting and finally attach the hilt to the blade. At which point only the White Lotus crest on a separate circle piece will be left; still not entirely sure how to do that since a jigsaw doesn’t really cut circles.
And once that’s done…I have to start the armor. Something I have never done before. That’s what scares me most.
